Parish High Tea 2023

As a Parish, community is very important to us.  One of our recent events was a High Tea.

Mersey Leven Parish came together sharing in a joyful High Tea in the Parish Hall on Sunday 19th March.

The Tea was a great success with over 180 people attending. The idea for the High Tea came about from a small conversation between assistant Fr Steven Smith and a few parishioners who desired to see a combination of building community and fundraising. A small committee along with Fr Jaison Kuzhiyil and Fr Steven planned the successful event which was unknown territory for most.

The Hall was magnifically decorated with fine linen, candles, Victorian crockery and beautiful flowers. The high quality traditional cakes, slices, scones, sandwiches sausage rolls were donated by parishioners and friends. Generous parishioners donated items for the silent auction and raffle. The afternoon consisted of a welcome by parish priest Fr Jaison, the skilful musical items by Leonie Watson Peters and Gerry Peters. Vibrant dance routines by talented Anju Joy and her children Ava and Noah brought loud applause.

The response from volunteers who helped set up, assisted with cleaning, washing up, with special mention to all the bakers and young people who assisted. The successful Silent Auction took place along with a raffle and lucky plate being received by appreciative winners. Those attending were guided through the afternoon by the very efficient Mr Kieran Brown. A wonderful sharing across the parish in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

This event was generously supported by St Brendan Shaw College, Melaleuca Auxiliary, Home Hill and Torquay dry cleaners and Hospitality Services. It certainly achieved community sharing and fundraising.

This was our most recent event, but certainly not our last one!
